On January 20th, behind the NOW logo on the vindows, an extremely large crowd filled the gallery to capacity with radiant young energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow00141.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7294\" title=\"artnow0014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow00141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project&#8217;s goal\u00a0was to provide a place of\u00a0 &#8220;artistic creativity that encourages mindful actions on local issues.&#8221; They also stated that, &#8220;This projects reflects the artists&#8217; interest in the tension between the rush and impatience of our current lifestyle and the benefit of slowing down.&#8221; Now, they got that part &#8211; the slowing down I mean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7285\" title=\"artnow0004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0004.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Going back to the exhibition on the next day all that remains is a very\u00a0small installation with a\u00a0 video screen, an empty room, and a big wall with some names &#8211; a\u00a0strong contrast between the opening celebration and the actual show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7282\" title=\"artnow0001\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Gift Shop Gift Shop<\/strong> fares better. It was a good idea to put it in the actual\u00a0 AGO gift shop, a place where the featured show\u00a0usually exhibits mementos. Its predecessor was the Chagall show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7291\" title=\"artnow0010\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/artnow0010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It features Toronto-based artists, designers and illustrators and many of the works reuse street and everyday materials, transformed into valuable objects. It is a neat\u00a0 idea and some of the objects are unique while the others\u00a0 just\u00a0blend into the usual\u00a0museum gifts.
