{"id":50053,"date":"2022-10-02T16:51:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-02T20:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/?p=50053"},"modified":"2022-10-05T19:43:23","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T23:43:23","slug":"nuit-blanche-toronto-2022-photo-journals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/?p=50053","title":{"rendered":"Nuit Blanche Toronto 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The crowds were out and so was I for the all-night celebration of art\u2014 think performance: sound, video, AR, as well as more conventional \u2018art\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were three things I saw in the downtown area that I liked: <em>Loom<\/em> (at the Church of the Holy Trinity behind the Eaton Centre), <em>Avataq<\/em> (on Yonge St. at Temperance St.) and <em>Confluence<\/em> (at The Bentway and Exhibition Place).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Loom<\/em> from elsewhere collective was an intriguing and beautiful assemblage of organza ribbons that acted as a screen for projections that repeated depending on what ribbons were in the projections path. Intense images of eyes and other facial features juxtaposed with streetcars \u2014 a very Toronto image. These elements were an effective comment on our coming together after COVID has kept us apart for so long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50070\" width=\"299\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-250x188.jpg 250w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1-160x120.jpg 160w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/rsz_loom1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Loom by elsewhere collective<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Avataq<\/em> by Couzyn van Heuvelen, was everything a piece for Nuit Blanche should be: big \u2014 really big \u2014 suspended above the street, and lit so everyone could see it. In this case it paid homage to the avataq, a tool that tracks and tires marine animals in order to catch them. With the sound field composed by Anne Bourne, the emerging and rising water courses were undeniably powerful, with both simple materials (and I mean a lot of linear feet of 2&#215;4\u2019s) and a big idea. <em>Confluence<\/em> is one of the extended exhibits, viewable Wednesday to Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm,\u00a0till October 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter
