{"id":45323,"date":"2020-05-06T11:27:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T15:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/?p=45323"},"modified":"2021-10-29T21:26:36","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T01:26:36","slug":"contact-photography-festival-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/?p=45323","title":{"rendered":"CONTACT Photography Festival 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Contact-logo-full.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45326\" width=\"147\" height=\"147\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival 2020<\/strong> <br \/>presents a new Online Program beginning May 1 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Scotiabank\nCONTACT Photography Festival<\/em>, the popular annual presentation of lens-based art,\nannounced an online platform to present new works and initiatives by Festival\nartists, participants and partners, including photo essays and books, videos,\nand a variety of conversations recorded in living rooms, studios and\nexhibitions.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically\nspanning the month of May, an exceptional range of lens-based works by Canadian\nand international artists was selected for a diverse array of exhibitions at\nmuseums, galleries, public sites, and alternative spaces throughout Toronto in\n2020. While many venues will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to\nthe impact of COVID-19, some of the Festival\u2019s exhibitions, public\ninstallations, and programs will eventually open on a case-by-case basis, once\npublic safety is assured and schedules are confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To acknowledge the enormous efforts of everyone involved in the Festival and to celebrate their many accomplishments, information about all of the original programming is presented on the<a href=\"https:\/\/scotiabankcontactphoto.com\/\"> CONTACT 2020 website<\/a>. Visitors will discover a rich and diverse range of content with individual profiles dedicated to each of the more than 150 exhibitions and public installations originally planned for sites across the city in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CONTACT is\npresenting a series of online programs, many in collaboration with their\npartners, which will roll out on the CONTACT website starting May 1. The\nselection listed below reveals the scope of programs that reflect and enhance\nthe Festival\u2019s exhibitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Focus<\/strong> profiles existing and new works,\nplus initiatives including videos and other timely iterations of photo-based\nprojects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Artist <strong>Kim\nHoeckele<\/strong> presents a new video where she takes a deep dive into her\ncomputer\u2019s research folder. Courtesy of the artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photographer\nand journalist <strong>Alberto Giuliani<\/strong> presents an on-going series of images\ndocumenting front-line workers at the San Salvatore Hospital in his hometown of\nPesaro, Italy, an epicenter of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Courtesy of the artist <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forthcoming reading lists from exhibition curators will be featured including <strong>Zo\u00eb Chan, Benjamin Freedman, Sophie Hackett, Anique Jordan, Bonnie Rubenstein<\/strong> and <strong>Tara Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Photobook\nLab<\/strong> showcases recent\npublications by artists and photographers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the\n2020 Photobook Lab is currently postponed, a selection of books will be\nfeatured online. This year\u2019s initiative is inspired by Spanish artist <strong>Laia\nAbril<\/strong>\u2019s exhibition A History of Misogyny Chapter Two: On Rape, to be\npresented in the CONTACT Gallery later this year. Scotiabank will select photos\nfrom entries to be featured on the CONTACT website throughout May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nikon:\nStay Inspired Lecture Series<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nikon will\npresent a series of weekly lectures streamed on Facebook Live during May by\ninternational guests including <strong>Taku Kumabe<\/strong>: Shifting Perspectives for a\nNew Look (May 6); <strong>Viktoria Haack<\/strong>: Navigating the World of Social Media\n(May 13); <strong>Michelle Valberg<\/strong>: For the Love of Wildlife (May 21) and <strong>Kristian\nBogner<\/strong>: Intention, Vision, Creation (May 27).
