Bidding was online as well as at the event. The organizer Teuzin Nawang Tekan got the idea for the Toronto event after attending a similar event in New York. The group is looking at a larger event in 2012. This year\u2019s event managed to attract a lot of the local Tibet community in Parkdale as well as others interested in the cause.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Art-for-Tibet-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4517\" title=\"Art for Tibet 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Art-for-Tibet-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>Photo: Phil Anderson<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More than 20 acclaimed and\u00a0emerging artists exhibited artworks\u00a0together for the first ever <em>Art\u00a0for Tibet (A4T<\/em>) Canada, annual art show, cultural exhibition and fundraiser\u00a0at Gallery 1313 in Toronto. Art for Tibet featured leading\u00a0contemporary Tibetan and international artists, including Tenzing\u00a0Rigdol, Chungpo, Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Brian Harris, UIla Djelweh, and\u00a0many more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4522\" title=\"art For Tibet 5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/art-For-Tibet-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"252\" \/>Photo: Phil Anderson<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since protests swept across Tibet in March 2008, the\u00a0Chinese government has arrested and imprisoned\u00a0numerous Tibetan\u00a0writers and artists for criticizing its policies in Tibet. Despite\u00a0this escalated repression, we\u00a0are witnessing a cultural renaissance in\u00a0Tibet, with an endless stream of poems, essays, songs and paintings flowing out from beyond the Himalayas. Over 50 Tibetan artists and\u00a0writers have been arrested, tortured and imprisoned in the past two\u00a0years.
