In her presentation of the winners, Curator for the BMO Financial Group, Dawn Cain, perfectly reflects, \u201cPerhaps the only encompassing statement one could say is that they are all ambitious and produce strong works that signify a point of experimentation and departure for each of their majors.\u201d Each piece differs in medium\u2014ranging from photography, painting, screen prints, to three dimension mechanical pieces\u2014but shares the same commanding presence upon the viewer. I can only imagine how difficult it was to select the winners from so many submissions.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve awards are presented to regional winners and one to an esteemed national winner. This year\u2019s national award went to Samuel de Lange from the University of Guelph with his work entitled <em>PVTREFACTIO VI (Black Sun).<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25592\" title=\"Image_3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Image_3-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px\" \/><\/a>National winner, Samuel de Lange (University of Guelph) with his mother, in front of his piece, <em>PVTREFACTIO VI (Black Sun)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The national winner receives $10,000 and the regional winners each receive $5,000 for his or her artwork. Design<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony was a glamorous affair filled with wine, delicious foods, and good conversation. While I am sure the winners, who were constantly conversing with interviewers and inquisitive guests, were exhausted by the time nine o\u2019clock rolled around, I found myself, as an attendee, enjoying the beautiful art and stylish company too much for the party to come to an end.
