They hold at least one collective exhibition a year and throughout the year display their work in the members gallery. According to the artist the referencing of household materials (steel wool and thread), processes (monotonous braiding and stitchery) and subjects (humble rag-rug and braided hair) invoke menial, likely female, drudgery. Yet the carpet itself refuses to behave as expected, pulling apart, snagging, bulging, and growing in unpredictable and impractical ways. However, the absurdity of a familiar yet prickly (and hence unusable) carpet with &#8220;Suessian&#8221; form injects humour into this seeming domestic dance with madness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kim-Stanford-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-20801\" title=\"Kim Stanford web\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kim-Stanford-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"337\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kim-Stanford-web.jpg 960w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kim-Stanford-web-150x107.jpg 150w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Kim-Stanford-web-250x178.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><\/a>Kim Stanford and her sculptural work,\u00a0<em>I \u2018ve Hit a Snag In my Self Realization<\/em><\/p>\n<p>John Ferri\u2019s photo based work with people seated on park benches was meticulous in detail and equally pleasing. Evan Steenson\u2019s <em>Pendulum<\/em> needed close inspection to appreciate the fine detail of this inkjet print on dibond. Gwen Tooth\u2019s\u00a0 powerful abstract painting <em>Post Tsunami No 1<\/em> was striking. This group of three artworks evokes in this viewer a haunting feeling of a dream unfolding or perhaps a nightmare with it&#8217;s splash of red. In the Cell Gallery, painter Christine Bunn\u2018s works were more subdued but equally pleasing.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors, artists and friends all enjoyed the exhibition and comparing the works and choosing a favourite.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is open: September 18 &#8211; 29, 2013, Gallery 1313, 1313 Queen Street West, Toronto.
