{"id":16942,"date":"2012-12-05T14:47:35","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T19:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/?p=16942"},"modified":"2013-05-10T14:21:49","modified_gmt":"2013-05-10T18:21:49","slug":"toronto-school-of-art-closes-after-44-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/?p=16942","title":{"rendered":"Toronto School of Art closes after 44 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Toronto School of Art closes after 44 years<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Toronto School of Art declared bankruptcy on Friday, November 30th, 2012, ending a more than 40-year-run.<\/p>\n<p>Students and Faculty\u00a0members were notified Thursday night and Friday morning to pick up their art supplfes from the third floor of the Adelaide St. W. location by 1 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/collage2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16954\" title=\"collage2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/collage2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/collage2.jpg 200w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/collage2-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sudden close down was a bad surprise for staff and students. The main reasons for\u00a0bankruptcy\u00a0were declining enrolment\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0the monthly challenge of renting about 1,100 square metres in a trendy neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>TSA, a registered private career college, provided diplomas and certificates.\u00a0As they website states\u00a0there were 1,200 students each year and 50 faculty members.
