WESTERN GALLERIES RECEPTIONS<\/strong>

Several galleries in Toronto’s West End had openings on Friday evening, October 26.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The entrance of Jessica Bradley Annex<\/p>\n

Jessica Bradley<\/strong> opened her new space Jessica Bradley Annex<\/em>\u00a0at 74 Miller Avenue with a group exhibition with artists Jon Sasaki<\/em>, Jed Lind<\/em>, Kristan Horton<\/em>, Michael deBroin<\/em>, Hadley Maxwell<\/em>, Daniel Barrow<\/em>, Sarah Cale<\/em> and Julia Dault<\/em>. The 2700 square foot Annex space was full of well wishers. The exhibit runs from October 26, 2012\u00a0to January 19, 2013.<\/p>\n

Several galleries just opened in this area. MOCCA it was rumoured might be also looking in the area for a new space as there is still some prime industrial space available.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The entrance of Scrap Metal Gallery<\/p>\n

To the south at 11 Dublin Street – in the Bloor and Lansdowne area – there was another reception for the Scrap Metal Gallery<\/strong> with Polish artist Miroslaw Balka<\/em>‘s installation Heaven. Balka <\/em>represented his native Poland in the 1993 Venice Biennale. The installation is about “loss of self and identity” using 68 perspex rods suspended from the ceiling which seemed in perpetual motion. By reflecting the viewer in a distorted and infinite way the rods change our view of self.\u00a0The reception was made complete with Polish beer, kabasa sausage and perogis. The exhibit continues to March 30, 2013.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Installation view of Miroslaw Balka, Heaven<\/p>\n

Still just a little further south on 188 St. Helens Street at the Daniel Faria Gallery<\/strong> Kristine Moran<\/em> had her reception for her painting exhibition, Between Life and Death.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Once again Moran creates her unique style of paintings with special influences from architecture and abstraction.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Kristine Moran, Resting place, 24 x 20 inches<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There was said to be a single painting left that was unsold. Both gallery and artist must be thrilled. The\u00a0show would be on display till November 24, 2012.<\/p>\n
