This body of work by Kevin Kelly, entitled \u2018Rock &amp; Religion\u2019, pieces together imagery from an evolving body of work which brings two worlds together so that they read as one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Kelli-Hell-is-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15406\" title=\"Kelli Hell is copy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Kelli-Hell-is-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"307\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Kelli-Hell-is-copy.jpg 640w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Kelli-Hell-is-copy-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Kelli-Hell-is-copy-250x165.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hell is real &#8211; dimensions 48&#215;32- photograph on hand-manipulated steel 2012<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018Rock &amp; Religion\u2019 juxtaposes evangelical iconography with the rock idol, while at the same time administering similarities between the two. \u00a0It began with a journey down a Southern U.S. freeway where Kelly was struck with by religious signage. \u00a0Placed in conjunction with familiar faces of popular rock culture, these religious images take on the same identifiable and iconographic nature as the famous individuals hung next to them. \u00a0While these two worlds might at first seem quite dissimilar, the reception of each in Kelly\u2019s mind is quite the same; he sees the behaviors associated with religion &#8211; worship, praise, idolization &#8211; not at all unlike the social reaction to rock stars who have maintained an iconic status in society.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BRENDAN-CANNING-Broken-Social-Scene-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15407\" title=\"BRENDAN CANNING Broken Social Scene\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BRENDAN-CANNING-Broken-Social-Scene-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BRENDAN-CANNING-Broken-Social-Scene-.jpg 522w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BRENDAN-CANNING-Broken-Social-Scene--150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BRENDAN-CANNING-Broken-Social-Scene--250x250.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Brendan Canning &#8211; 48&#215;48 &#8211; photograph on hand-manipulated steel 2012<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is also the social stigma that these two genres attach to one another. What makes this show interesting is Kelly\u2019s ability to see the similarities even in the dissimilarities of these two worlds and pull it all together.\u00a0\u00a0He has captured both rock and roll and religion with the same honest, caught-in-the-moment, grittiness.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Iggy-Pop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15408\" title=\"Iggy Pop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Iggy-Pop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Iggy-Pop.jpg 423w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Iggy-Pop-98x150.jpg 98w, https:\/\/v2.artoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Iggy-Pop-164x250.jpg 164w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Iggy Pop &#8211; 16&#215;24 &#8211; photograph on hand-manipulated steel 2012<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each work is mounted on hand-manipulated steel ranging in size from sixteen by twenty-four inches all the way up to pieces as large as forty-eight by forty-eight.
