Light Bringers, Positive Thinking & Currents of Being<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gallery 1313 doesn\u2019t shy away from hosting eclectic exhibitions. On July 25 three very different exhibitions shared a reception. Artist Diana Dickson<\/em>\u2019s exhibition in the Process Gallery, Positive Thinking: What Does it Look like<\/em> was colourful and calming while Light Bringers<\/em> had some disturbing and powerful works.<\/p>\n

J<\/em>ohn Nobrega<\/em>‘s Philosopher\u2019s Wall<\/em> (oil on linen) stood out as did Jennifer Humphrie<\/em>‘s paintings, Dr. Lecter<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Other works were equally strong and curator Lucero Miltxorena<\/em> did a great job of pulling together a group of artists with a variety of approaches to expressing their dark side. Propraetor<\/em>‘s ink on paper drawings were meticulous and detailed.<\/p>\n

Orlee Andromedae<\/em>‘s small dark canvases held their \u00a0own. Fox Xoft <\/em>had a grouping of her works – some on rag paper and others were mixed on board –\u00a0all colourful and dark at the same time.<\/p>\n

The evening had video screenings by artist Jubal Brown<\/em> and later a performance by artist, musican \u03df\u2020N\u03df<\/em> with accompanying video. Both pieces were mezmerizing.<\/p>\n

In the Cell Gallery, Gallery 1313 member, Audrey Smith<\/em> received guests for her first solo exhibit, Circles of Being<\/em>. Her figurative blue\u00a0 paintings were a hit and she sold several.<\/p>\n

The evening was fun and you couldn\u2019t have experienced a wider range of works in most Toronto galleries.<\/p>\n

And it was all good.<\/p>\n
